History of the AeroPress

AeroPress, Inc. is the maker of the AeroPress coffee maker, an innovative coffee press loved by a multitude of global fans.

The company was founded in 1984 by Alan Adler, a renowned inventor and retired Stanford University engineering professor, to manufacture and sell his revolutionary sporting goods inventions, including the Aerobie Pro flight ring, which set a Guinness World Record for longest throw.

In 2004, Alan began studying the coffee brewing process and analyzing coffee maker design to create a truly innovative device that would brew an excellent cup of coffee. At a coffee industry show in November 2005, Aerobie introduced its groundbreaking AeroPress coffee maker.

After several years of establishing itself in the coffee world, sales of the AeroPress to serious coffee lovers in the United States and over 80 countries increased.

The company thrived for over a decade, selling both Aerobie sports toys, with their amazing flight performance, and the AeroPress coffee makers, which brew deliciously smooth, rich coffee.

In 2017, the assets of the Aerobie sports toy business were sold to Swimways Corporation, a subsidiary of Spin Master Ltd., and the company’s name was officially changed to AeroPress, Inc. In 2019 we expanded the AeroPress product line with the introduction of the AeroPress Go travel coffee press.

In August 2021, Tiny Capital Ltd., a Canadian holding company with a reputation for investing in and growing small businesses with great potential, announced it had acquired a controlling interest in the AeroPress business. Alan Adler, inventor of the AeroPress, remains involved and retains a minority interest in the company.
